As co-owner of Hause Restaurant Group Chantal Hause oversees the day-to-day operations of Gertrude’s and manages the restaurant’s marketing to capitalize on the opportunities that being located within the Desert Botanical Garden presents.

Her other day job is managing marketing for Fabulous Food Fine Catering and Events – the sister company to Gertrude’s. Under Chantal’s direction Fabulous Food has built a reputation for creating inspired culinary experiences that are exclusively tailored for client’s specific desires and needs.

Known for her creativity, enthusiasm and organizational skills, Chantal’s breadth of event planning experience is invaluable. Prior to forming Fabulous Food, Chantal spent 17 years in the Phoenix restaurant and catering industry working at John Gardiner’s Tennis Ranch (now Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain), Vincent on Camelback, Coffee Plantation in Biltmore Fashion Park, and Continental Catering.

Chantal is an icon in the local catering industry. Her accomplishments were widely recognized in in 2012 when she received an ISES Lifetime Achievement Award. She supports Meals on Wheels, the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), and is a founding member of the Wedding Industry Professionals Association (WIPA). Chantal recently passed the torch as a high-profile member of the International Special Events Society (ISES) to make room for her staff to play a role.

Chantal’s overriding commitment is that the dining experience or event will be unique and executed to perfection. A testament to how she lives her life.

Alan ‘Skip’ Hause
Owner

Skip Hause, co-owner and chef, founded Hause Restaurant Group in 2012 with his wife Chantal to fulfill their vision of producing a uniquely Arizona restaurant at the Desert Botanical Garden. That restaurant, Gertrude’s, opened in 2013 to critical acclaim and continues to satisfy thousands of visitors and locals with its innovative and discerning seasonally inspired cuisine.

As a graduate of New York’s Culinary Institute of America, Skip has stellar credentials in the culinary world. In 2012 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Special Events Society (ISES).

He remains a long-standing member of the American Culinary Federation (ACF). The ACF offers educational resources, training, apprenticeships, and accreditation to enhance professional growth for current and future chefs. On a local level, Skip is a member of the Chefs Collaborative. The Chef Collaborative works with chefs and the greater food community to celebrate local foods and foster a more sustainable food supply.

In addition to overseeing the culinary direction at Gertrude’s, Skip has managed Fabulous Food Fine Catering and Events with Chantal since 1996 to produce one-of-a-kind events with exquisite artisan cuisine.

Skip is co-author of On Cooking: A Textbook of Culinary Fundamentals a comprehensive and prestigious textbook published by Prentice Hall. Now in its fifth edition, On Cooking is used in over 300 schools nationally and internationally.
